Spyder's heritage is one of speed, progression, and experience. The company started in 1977 as David L. Jacobs, Inc. While David Jacobs' young sons were on the ski racing circuit, he noted that there was only one brand of racing sweaters available. He knew he could make a better product and sell it to the tight-knit breed community. David L. Jacobs, Inc. was, at the time, a small mail order business 'for the brokers, by the brokers'. One of Jacob's first creations was blue racing pants with yellow striped protective pads. Skiers started calling them 'spider' pants, due to their spider leg-like appearance.
